What I Think
I think a lot of things.

I think our education systems needs a complete re-haul.  It does not either incentivize or support new, innovative ways of thinking about and pursuing teaching, learning, and schooling that more fully and comprehensively support our youth, the adults that serve them, our communities, or our world.

I think the system could be redesigned to both incentivize and support the kinds of learning that could truly benefit our youth and the adults in our world.

I also believe instead of waiting for the politicians to figure out how to create such an "incubator" and innovative system, WE must move ahead and build our own opportunities for learning that can how the way.  And, this will not be easy.  Our system is not designed to actively and proactively support experimentation.  If anything, it both politically and socially reinforces the status quo.

This is a problem

GIVEN how difficult it is to pursue innovation and new possibilities in education, we NEED to support one another in such efforts.  We need to find friends, colleagues, and comrades in arms in pursuing such new ideas and visions.  And we need to share with one another the "tricks of the trade" to make something happen in the face of numerous challenges.

The reason for the image of above is because I believe we need as many wild flowers growing as possible.  We don't want just ONE kind of learning environment, or just one kind of school, or one kind of learning opportunity to be available to ALL students.  Just as we are not all alike, we also don't all learn the same or like to learn the same.  Rather, there should be a plethora of learning opportunities and means for learning ... and these should all be made available to as many youth and adults as possible.  In this way we have a beautiful field of learning, and not the one kind of grass, vegetation ... or only the McDonalds of schools and choices – or lack thereof – we have today.
