BVCAPS – Blue Valley Center for Advanced Professional Studies

An industry- and student interest-driven community of learning and authentic work

One can easily misconstrue this program in Blue Valley as a typical vocational program .... but it certainly is not.

In Blue Valley, juniors and seniors can choose to attend BVCAPS (the Blue Valley Center for Advanced Professional Studies) in the morning or afternoon, away from their home high school, and pursue a number of vocational endeavors.  But the pursuit is authentic – meaning students CARE to do it and typically is serving a specific community or industry need.

Based upon industry needs and guidance, students can choose to pursue a variety of industry strands comprised of courses and, most importantly, industry-specific projects.

Students enroll in a course – such as Veterinarian Medicine, the Future of Food, Video Production, Entrepreneurship, or Architectural Design, and with the guidance of a mentor (often someone who has worked in that industry) supports students in their industry-based work.

Below, you can find the five key guiding principles and videos describing the program.

In addition, on the following pages, linked below, are videointerviews conducted at the school with students and a teacher that can give you a better feel for (1) the impact of the program on students, and (2) the engagement of faculty in their support of students.
